Self Regulating Practices Recognized by Federal Government

Pilgrim’s Mexico received Clean Industry Certificates for its ongoing commitment to the National Environmental Audit Program of Mexico.

PROFEPA (Mexico’s Federal Office of Environmental Protection) granted renewed certificates to Pilgrim’s Mexico’s San Luis Potosí, Coahuila and Querétaro facilities for their compliance with all guidelines established in the National Environmental Audit Program of Mexico.

The self-regulating audit program, which prioritizes prevention over sanctions, aims to facilitate the improvement of environmental production processes, reduce energy consumption and avoid regulatory non-compliance penalties. Pilgrim’s Mexico first introduced the program to its Central complex in 2016 and conducted satisfactory audits at its Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tepeji del Río, Saltillo and Colón facilities in 2018.

In addition to these federal audits, the company further demonstrated its commitment and support by hosting a presentation of the State Audit Program as part of a World Environment Day celebration held at its Querétaro feed mills. The event was attended by 30 companies from across Querétaro that, together with Pilgrim’s Mexico, delivered letters of program incorporation and expressed commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility. The State Attorney for Environmental Protection and Urban Development, José Luis Peña Ríos, received these documents in the presence of the Secretary, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero (SEDESU), and Pilgrim’s Mexico Director, Charles Von Der Heyde.
